Wedding Design

This was a big project that I worked on throughout 2023: my brother and his partners’ wedding! It was great to be asked and to be commissioned to contribute to such a big day and special occasion. I started with standard script fonts and whittled them down to one that looked good in various sizes, especially for the large ‘C & C’ logo that was going to be used across all of the signage and paperwork.

The colour selected was a deep green, so I worked with that colour, the selected font and then added the rounded laurel and two separate sans serif fonts for the main body copy of the invites and posters.

Below, you will see images of; the guestbook cover, two large signs on easels that were on display at the ceremony / reception, the ceremony programme, the invites (details blurred) , the table sign markers and the custom made cookies.

Overall, I really enjoyed working on this project. It gave me experience working on a different kind of design and for a different kind of audience than I’m used to. Bouncing ideas and alterations back and forth, as well as making all requested edits was a learning experience. It was also slightly surreal seeing my design work printed onto canvas, flyers, cards and even cookies! I have shown some friends and coworkers these photos and have even had some say they would like me to do the design work for their weddings! I’m available for hire, everyone!

Fandom Con / Fandom Takeover

I was commissioned by The Now Group to brand their “Fandom” events during 2023. This involved weekly meetings where I developed and altered the branding to help promote the event and create a tone of voice for their online presence.

I had started with a retro-futuristic theme and narrowed the colour scheme down to bold teal and pink tones, with black and white accents. This informed the typography for the logos and the banners used at the event to advertise the different game sections. I used a mascot template and added my own design elements to create the mascot of ‘Tapioca the Cat.’ This mascot used the existing colour scheme and was used on; lanyards, t-shirts, tote bags, notepads, a poster for the front of the event and across social media. The event was a big success and a smaller event was created several months later. I was therefore asked to alter the logo slightly. This was then used for a slightly different bag design, a keyring and a sticker.

Overall, this was a very fun project and client to work for! It was an experience for me to be the lead graphic designer on a project and really fun to see my work published onto so many items. I look forward to helping them with future events.

Animal Crossing Project

This was a long gestating project over lockdown. There was a lot that went into it. But essentially, I got 6 large boxes and wrapped them in ribbon with colour coded balloons like in the game. I filled the boxes with presents and then customized each one for each friend.

This was my first time sewing, which i made the sacks with bells on them. These were made from felt and filled with cotton wool, tied with ribbon and bells tied onto them to make them jingle.

For the message in a bottle items, I drew the recipe icon from the game, printed them small and used clear glue to seal them inside small craft bottles.

The fossil boxes were customised inside with patterned card, the fossil icons themselves were made by hand from clay and a small keyring was put inside each one.

For the birthday cards, I downloaded PNG files of some of the game characters and added rude phrases (censored in the photos!) and added icons from the game in the backgrounds. The envelopes were then sealed with stickers I made in Illustrator featuring game icons.

For the final personal touch, I designed custom travel labels, once again using logos from the game and actual information from real travel labels, then adding each persons’ name and island name as the destinations.
